Fishing has always been a common activity in the world of outdoor sports. Not only is it relaxing and fun, but it also is an action that serves one of our most basic needs, food. Even considering the popularity that this sport has enjoyed throughout history, the advancements in fishing technology allow it to be one of today’s fastest growing sports.

Lowrance Elite 5 HDI

What is the greatest advancement in fishing technology?

Lowrance Elite 5 HDI the fish finder.

Do you need a fish finder

Allow me to tell you why you need a fish finder. First of all, the device does exactly what it says: find the fish. Secondly, they will give you the depth of the waters you are in as well as helping you to target particular species of fish.

Fishfinders allow you to find out where the bait is.

Finding the proper bait for the fish you are trying to catch is, of course, vitally important. These devices give you the ability to save time, taking you straight to the waters that your fish will be feeding at.

Provides you with water temperatures

Often when looking for a particular species of fish, you have to take into consideration weather and water temperatures. Fishfinders will give you accurate readings of water temperatures, saving you from wasting your time in areas that are not going to contain the fish that you are looking for.

Fishfinders allow you to take the guesswork out of fishing. Going fishing, especially for sport, can be incredibly frustrating if you don’t have any equipment to direct you to the fishing “hot spot,” these devices keep the frustration away.

If you enjoy taking your boat or kayak out and spending the day in the waters catching some fish, then a fish finder may be something that you should look into getting. The fish finder that I am going to review today is the Lowrance Elite – 5 CHIRP.

The Lowrance Elite 5 HDI utilizes a dual hybrid imaging system. This is a technology that uses a single-frequency sonar, commonly referred to as a “broadband sounder,” and down scan imaging.

They are used simultaneously to provide you with a picture like an image of what is beneath the boat, alongside sonar, letting you know if there are any fish in the waters below you.

The broadband system is built into the skimmer making it easy for you to track fish without having to stop the boat, making you more efficient while out in the rivers and lakes.

Screen and display

There are 30 different languages to choose from on the Elite 5. It has a 5-inch color display is easy to read in all types of light and has an intuitive user interface, making it easy for you to navigate through the menus, and getting you to the actual action of fishing quickly.

Multi-window displays give you the ability to view charts, sonar, and the down scan imagery on the monitor all at the same time. There is also an advantageous feature called “trackback” that allows you to look at your recent sonar history. This is ideal for collecting data on spots that you visit frequently.

GPS

Global Position Systems are a necessity on fish finders, and the GPS on this piece of equipment is fantastic. Not only is it extraordinarily accurate, but it also has a U.S. map detailing more than 3,000 lakes and rivers with the ability to read coastal contours as deep as 1,000 feet.

This fish finder will give you the information you need at nearly any lake or river you visit.

The Elite 5 also gives you the ability to create your map by using the sonar information that you have collected during your trip.

Some other functions this Lowrance fishfinder offers is the capacity to upgrade charts. The charts that you can choose to upgrade include,  Lake Insight™ and Nautic Insight™ PRO and HD, Navionics® HotMaps® Premium, Fishing Hotspots® PRO and Jeppesen C-Map Max-N.

Any time you purchase a device of this magnitude you want to make sure that you are not going be left with a device that breaks down on you in a few short months. The company does offer a one year manufacturer’s warranty on this product, but I suspect you will not need to use it. This is an excellent product, from a very reputable company.

Wrap – Up

If you are serious about fishing, or maybe you just want to get to the water’s housing the fish you are looking for faster; a fish finder is a tool that you will want to purchase. I think the Lowrance Elite 5 HDI is an excellent product that will offer all you ask for in a fish finder while bringing more to the table.

If you are not currently utilizing a fish finder, pick this one up and give it a try. I’m confident you will never go back to fishing without it again.
